Hello, I used to play DoD 1.3 all the time and was really into realism.
I was just wondering if you guys could name off what units your were in DoD and what your names were I am just curious. Thanks!

I don't think anybody here played DoD. This is the last bastion of Red Orchestra realism (aside from 16. Kp, FjR6) :P.

In terms of RO units there are guys from:
1.SS, 2.SS, 3.SS, 4.SS, 5.SS, 9.SS, 12. SS, 17.SS, 2. MD, 5. Gj, 3. Pzgr, 20. Pzgr, 72. ID, 369. IR, 11. PzD, 51. HD, 181. TB, and 2. RB (sorry Berg :))

Keep in mind RO's been around for years too :)

We have never been a DOD unit, I also don't think any of our members have ever been in DOD realism units. I don't see how there can be realism unit DOD it's more arcade than pac man. Welcome to the forums any how.

Hi, sorry I did not want to open another thread so I am just going to ask my question here. What do you guys think of Darkest Hour? I am in the process of downloading it and I didn't know what it was like with the quality and gameplay features? I understand its mainly volunteer work but I was just curious.

DH is very good, it's our main game. The quality over all is quite acceptable.

Is there a lot of glitches to fix still?

Fritz Fleck

No, it's a very stable mod. There is the occasional issue with balance vs realism but all games have those.

If you're coming from DoD and want to get into actual realism then DH is the way to go.

Yeah I am going to get into realism on DH the only problem I worry about is it might die out like DoD did and people will stop playing.

Well, it's been going strong for like... 4+ years (including mod days). People who were around then are still around now, though really they're all in this unit. Most units (especially Allied ones) came over from DoD and have a sketchy view of realism.

Not only that but RO2 will be out next year. So the community won't die anytime soon, however all community's die sooner or later, it's inevitable.

Cool cool this unit is very helpful and nice. Once DH downloads I will stop by in your server even though I will probably play like garbage. I would like to get to know you guys more and learn more about game. :)

Our server is locked for trainings most of the time. If you want to learn the game and play historical realism or virtual re-enactment as some call it. It might just be best to enlist in DH unit, axis or allies. They will teach you what you need to know.

I just might wanna add I've been playing dod 1.3 a long time.
It's in that game I learned what realism was. I enlisted back in those days with the 29th ID.
A year and a half ago, the 29th made his move to Darkest Hour. Ever since then I didnt play dod. Once you expierenced DH or RO you dont want to go to that run and gun game ever again.
Dod is as dead as it can be, and his realism is lead by incopetent rank hungry people. Units there (nowadays) dont last for a long time.
I've seen many units die just because of mutiny (members who were angry because they didnt got promoted etc...)

If you want to get into real realism, I suggest you enlist with a unit in DH / RO.
And the 2. SS might just be the one youre looking for. They are really good organized, a goo bunch of soldiers and they know what they are doing.
So what you're waiting for? Go to their Müsteringsbüro!!!!

I started playing FPS with DOD 1.3. It was the first WWII FPS out there and they even had a mention about it in the Wall Street Journal. I was in the 1.SS in DOD. Great game and I still will jump on and spend a few minutes playing. However, RO changed everything for me. DOD was the best for its day and was the baby expirement that morphed into all the games we see today. Great to see former DOD players progressing further into realism... There are plenty of us out there.

I played DoD about 6 years ago and was in a few realism units. Ironicly it was how I was introduced to realism. I then moved to RO once it became its own standalone game and not a mod.

I never played DoD but I did play DoD:S for like 4 years playing in a normal clan called the SAS. It was in the beginning of august 2009 when I bought RO and started playing DH and then I first discovered realism when I was on the 2nd RB server and then when i went back to dods for the first time in a while I started finding lots of realism servers I've never seen before.

I have played both (sad) but have grown past the fragging and rapid arcade like play. Both are great games that lead me to a better place... HERE!

I played DOD from 1.3b onwards, till about steam came out. 1.3 wasn't bad, but source is waaaay too arcadey.

DoD:Source is a shame, its shit. if you compare with DoD.
